The fact that part of the alcohol is distilled from milk - and not from grain - is new on the Swiss spirits scene. Muh Gin shows the way: It combines Swiss organic milk with herbal and fruit flavors.

Swiss start-up Lumiére des Alpes is usually known for its milk can lanterns, with which Florian, Raphael and Sarino, who are in their mid-thirties, want to capture the customs of their country and interpret them in a contemporary way. The creative sales department also offers bell lanterns, silhouette pictures, lampions, Christmas baubles, candles, scarves and other decorative items that depict typical scenes from the mountain landscape. A gin seems somehow out of place there - and yet the three young men have added the Muh Gin to their portfolio in 2019. The gin is bottled in a simple apothecary bottle with a cork stopper. The label roughly depicts the production process: Muh Gin contains organic milk from free-range cows, oregano, thyme, peppermint, blueberries, as well as lemons from Italy's Amalfi Coast. The gin is produced in the modernly equipped gin, whisky and schnapps distillery at Käsers Schloss. However, the milk is not simply added to the alcohol. Similar to the British Black Cow Pure Milk Vodka, which has been causing a sensation since 2012, organic milk serves as the basis for distillation.
