details
The team of the Islay distillery Bruichladdich pursued with the launch of the Octomore series a goal: to offer the most heavily peated single malts in the world. Phenolic contents of 167ppm as in the Octomore 8.1 are an absolute exception in the spirits industry, as most aficionades are content with values around 50ppm. The "super heavily peated whiskeys" Octomore serve the Gustus a small but steadily growing fan base of Islay peat, and let occasional tasters and average barbarians to their limits. Originally intended as an experiment, Octomore has become an integral part of the Bruichladdich Distillery product range. The 08.1 Edition was distilled in 2008 from Scottish barley and then stored in first-filled barrels of the American bourbon distilleries Buffalo Trace, Clermont Springs, Four Roses, Heaven Hill and Jack Daniels. After eight years of rest, the liquid was transferred to the last stop of their long journey and was filled in the strength of 59.3% in the atypically black bottles. Anyone who gets involved with the smoky, tarry and peaty aroma will also be surprised by notes of candied orange, pepper, chocolate, lemon pastry and sweet candies. The mouth combines fruity and smoky nuances with hints of sea salt, oak, vanilla, marzipan and walnut.
