A flowery Hendrick's gin created by the addition of secret floral essences. Master distiller Lesley Gracie experimented with this in the brand new Gin Palace in the Scottish Girvan distillery, which is equipped with seven distilleries.
The same free spirits who gave the world a gin with cucumbers and Damascus roses before the turn of the millennium are now responsible for the "Midsummer Solstice Gin". The new edition is based on the original Hendrick's Gin recipe and is additionally enriched with a secret selection of floral essences - which fits in very well with the solstice theme, which is the longest day of the year on June 21st. Master distiller Lesley Gracie worked on the recipe at the Girvan Distillery in Scotland run by William Grant & Sons. The little-known Lowland distillery has been making grain whiskey since 1963. It was not until 2018 that the 13 million pound Gin Palace opened, where there are now four Bennet stills and three Carter-Head stills on the boil and steam. The two original burners - a Bennet Still (built in 1860) and a Carter-Head Still (built in 1948) - were acquired in 1966 by William Grants great-grandson Charles Gordon. Only 30 years later developed the recipe for the Hendrick's Gin. For the recent expansion of the gin distillery, exact replicas of those plants were made in order not to change the character of the gin. It's best to serve the Midsummer Solstice Gin in the purple bottle together with a classic Tonic Water, so as not to mask the versatile flavors of the flowery spirit.
