Pimm's Strawberry & Mint, with fresh strawberries and a touch of mint, is based on Pimm's No 1 Cup, a drink from southern England that was first mixed in 1823 as a digestif in an oyster restaurant. Based on gin, this special edition is best infused with lemonade and served with ice cream.
Pimm's Strawberry & Mint is an English aperitif made and marketed with the famous gin fruit liqueur Pimm's No 1 Cup, with added strawberries and hints of mint. Originally the first Pimm's Cup was mixed as a tonic with a secret recipe of herbs and spices in 1823 by the farmer's son James Pimm, who offered it in his oyster restaurant. It was served in a lidded jar, and therefore it was given the name "Cup". Soon, not only the restaurant became more popular and famous, but also the No 1 Cup, so No 2 and No 3 (based on Scotch whiskey and brandy) quickly followed. These were first sold commercially by hawkers on bicycles. In 1859, the company was sold several times until it fell in 1880 in the possession of the later mayor of London. After the Second World War, no. 4-6 included in the assortment. From 1970, the company plunged into a deep crisis, which ended with the acquisition of Diago and led to an expansion of the range. After the development of the Winter Cup and other special editions followed several fruit blends such as the Pimm's Strawberry & Mint, which is best infused with double the amount of lemonade over ice.
