The story of the Kilchoman distillery is told very quickly - their construction was only started in 2004 and at the end of 2005 production could start after some difficulties. On December 14, 2005, the first barrel was filled. Kilchoman is located just east of the homonymous village and was the westernmost Scottish whiskey distillery until Abhainn Dearg on the Isle of Lewis challenged her for this title. Kilchoman is a very small distillery. It only produces about 100,000 to 110,000 liters of pure alcohol. Only Edradour produces less - apart from micro distilleries like Loch Ewe. What is unique about Kilchoman is that all production steps are carried out here. This is how the distillery builds its own barley.
