The Talisker distillery is located on the shores of the Loch Harport and is the only one of its kind on the island of Skye in northwest Scotland. In this secluded and almost inhospitable area, characterized by cold, icy winds and churned up water, the whiskey is "made by the sea". Launched in 2013, Talisker Port Ruighe follows the trend of not having an age statement. For many a whiskey drinker that is a thorn in the side, because he fears that it is a younger, less high quality distillate, which is marketed as a sophisticated oldie. But for true connoisseurs, it does not seem like much more than a number on the bottle label; instead, quite different, more important manufacturing details and, of course, the resulting flavor profile come to the fore. The Talisker Port Ruighe has a lot to show in this respect: He went through a probably several years of maturation in heavily burnt oak barrels of American and European wood and was then refined in port wine barrels. Accordingly, the whiskey pays homage to the maritime merchants, who then went in and out of Ruighe Harbor and did their business with the Portuguese drop.
