Kilchoman SANAIG Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 46 % Schottland – Product view

Kilchoman SANAIG Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 46 % Schottland

Sanaig is the latest bottling of the Kilchoman distillery and complements the Machir Bay. A composition of 4- and 5-year-old ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, with a higher sherry casks compared to Machir Bay.The story of the Kilchoman distillery is told very quickly - their construction was only started in 2004 and at the end of 2005 production could start after some difficulties. On December 14, 2005, the first barrel was filled. Kilchoman is located just east of the homonymous village and was the westernmost Scottish whiskey distillery until Abhainn Dearg on the Isle of Lewis challenged her for this title. Kilchoman is a very small distillery. It only produces about 100,000 to 110,000 liters of pure alcohol. Only Edradour produces less - apart from micro distilleries like Loch Ewe. What is unique about Kilchoman is that all production steps are carried out here. This is how the distillery builds its own barley. This circumstance is probably due to the fact that is often read, Kilchoman would grow his own barley completely. This is not the case. To the approximately 100 tons of self-grown barley (which is incidentally 20-25 ppm), Kilchoman buys about 250 tons with 50ppm turfed malt from the Port Ellen Maltings. In addition to the other manufacturing processes, the brewing, the burning, the maturing and the finish, Kilchoman is also bottled 'on site'. A very worth seeing and worth reading report on a visit to the Kilchoman distillery can be found here.

ARDBEG 10 Years Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 46 % Schottland – Product view

ARDBEG 10 Years Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 46 % Schottland

ARDBEG 10 Years Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey 70 cl / 46% ScotlandArdbeg 10 years is one of the most famous single malts and is an absolute must for every fan of Islay. No whiskey embodies the mystical character of the island better than Ardbeg with its particularly high peat content. On the rugged banks of the southern part of Islay is the distillery Ardbeg. She prides herself on her private source - the water used by Loch Uigeadail is soft and pure. Nose: Smoky, salt water, iodine-like dryness Taste: Its balanced and deep aroma is characterized by a bewitching blend of caramel, sweet chocolate, cinnamon and phenolic notes. After initial sweetness, intense peat notes quickly develop with hints of tobacco smoke and espresso. Finish: Strong, with lots of iodineThe distillery Ardbeg was founded in 1815, where previously Schwarzbrenner had done their work. In 1817, two years after its founding, it passed into the family estate of the McDougall family and was not handed over to Hiram Walker as a new owner until 1977. This closed the distillery 4 years later. In 1989, thanks to the new owner Allied, it went into operation for a further 7 years, but without malting. Glenmorangie plc saved the jewel in 1997, had the building renovated and then went back into production. Fortunately, the change in ownership of Glenmorangie to Moët Hennessy has not yet had a major impact, except for management changes on the top carpet level.

SMOKEHEAD Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 43 % Schottland – Product view

SMOKEHEAD Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 43 % Schottland

The Smokehead is a very smoky single malt whiskey. Smokehead Whisky is an own brand of the company Ian Macleod Distillers LTD. The independent bottler of Scotch malt whisky, blended whisky, vodka, gin, rum and wine has been present as a family business since the 1940s and calls a huge stock of casks its own. After production, the spirits spend their very last hours at the bottling plant in Broxburn in the Scottish Lowlands. Smokehead lives up to its name, as it is a strongly smoky, peaty, spicy and maritime whisky from Islay. From which of the eight Islay distilleries the distillate for the single malt ultimately comes, is not revealed. Other details about the whiskey are also not disclosed to interested customers, who instead concentrate entirely on putting the spirit itself in the foreground.

Talisker PORT RUIGHE Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 45.8 % Schottland – Product view

Talisker PORT RUIGHE Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 45.8 % Schottland

This single malt refined in port wine barrels brought out the Talisker distillery on the island of Skye in 2013 without an age statement.detailsThe Talisker distillery is located on the shores of the Loch Harport and is the only one of its kind on the island of Skye in northwest Scotland. In this secluded and almost inhospitable area, characterized by cold, icy winds and churned up water, the whiskey is "made by the sea". Launched in 2013, Talisker Port Ruighe follows the trend of not having an age statement. For many a whiskey drinker that is a thorn in the side, because he fears that it is a younger, less high quality distillate, which is marketed as a sophisticated oldie. But for true connoisseurs, it does not seem like much more than a number on the bottle label; instead, quite different, more important manufacturing details and, of course, the resulting flavor profile come to the fore. The Talisker Port Ruighe has a lot to show in this respect: He went through a probably several years of maturation in heavily burnt oak barrels of American and European wood and was then refined in port wine barrels. Accordingly, the whiskey pays homage to the maritime merchants, who then went in and out of Ruighe Harbor and did their business with the Portuguese drop. The taste of the liquor convinces with peaty, spicy peppery, spicy and fruity notes

Kilchoman MACHIR BAY Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 46 % Schottland – Product view

Kilchoman MACHIR BAY Scotch Whisky 70 cl / 46 % Schottland

Port Ellen JOHN MILLROY Selection 1982 - 23 Year Single Malt Whisky 70 cl / 56.8 % Schottland – Product view

Port Ellen JOHN MILLROY Selection 1982 - 23 Year Single Malt Whisky 70 cl / 56.8 % Schottland

Port Ellen JOHN MILLROY Selection 1982 - 23 Year Single Malt Whisky 70 cl / 56.8 % Schottland The Port Ellen distillery was founded in 1825 by Alexander Kerr Mackay in Port Ellen on the Scottish island of Islay and became the property of John Ramsay in 1836. In 1920 Iain Ramsay of Kildalton, a nephew of John Ramsay, sold the distillery to James Buchanan and Co. and John Dewars and Sons Ltd. who merged with Distillers Company Limited (DCL) in 1925. From 1929 the distillery was closed for the first time. After modernization and doubling the number of stills from two to four, the distillery was reopened in 1966. In 1973 an extremely spacious malt house was added, which still supplies Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Lagavulin and partly Bunnahabhain, Kilchoman and Laphroaig. The peat used comes from nearby Castlehill Moor. In May 1983 the Port Ellen distillery was closed again. In 1987 it was sold to United Distillers (UD) and parts of the plant were dismantled. The license for the production of whisky, which was held by Low, Robertson and Co until 1992, has not existed since then. A reopening is therefore impossible. The distillery was largely demolished, the existing warehouses were used by Lagavulin for many years and Port Ellen is now a closed distillery.Until the shutdown the water from the Leorin Loch was used for production. With a mash tun of over 5.5 tons and eight wash backs totalling 240,000 liters, two wash stills of 28,000 liters each and two spirit stills of 25,000 liters each, an output of 0.8 million liters was achieved.Old original bottlings from the distillery are becoming increasingly rare and can almost only be found on the special auctions of renowned auction houses such as Krüger, Bonhams or Christies, but are subject to increasing price increases. The Diageo group puts the existing small stocks into annual limited special editions with small quantities. Despite the meanwhile high prices, these are usually sold out within a short time and have almost cult status with connoisseurs like Ardbeg, Bowmore or Karuizwa. The single malt whiskies from Port Ellen have a typical Islay-like, slightly peaty aroma, a very smoky taste and an oily finish.
