MUH Gin 50 cl / 40 % Schweiz The fact that part of the alcohol is distilled from milk - and not from grain - is new on the Swiss spirits scene. Muh Gin shows the way: It combines Swiss organic milk with herbal and fruit flavors. Swiss start-up Lumiére des Alpes is usually known for its milk can lanterns, with which Florian, Raphael and Sarino, who are in their mid-thirties, want to capture the customs of their country and interpret them in a contemporary way. The creative sales department also offers bell lanterns, silhouette pictures, lampions, Christmas baubles, candles, scarves and other decorative items that depict typical scenes from the mountain landscape. A gin seems somehow out of place there - and yet the three young men have added the Muh Gin to their portfolio in 2019. The gin is bottled in a simple apothecary bottle with a cork stopper. The label roughly depicts the production process: Muh Gin contains organic milk from free-range cows, oregano, thyme, peppermint, blueberries, as well as lemons from Italy's Amalfi Coast. The gin is produced in the modernly equipped gin, whisky and schnapps distillery at Käsers Schloss. However, the milk is not simply added to the alcohol. Similar to the British Black Cow Pure Milk Vodka, which has been causing a sensation since 2012, organic milk serves as the basis for distillation.

The Alpinist Dry Gin is a true Swiss product: it contains glacier water from the Jungfraujoch as well as typical alpine herbs that give it sweet, spicy and floral aromas. With a leather label hung around the bottleneck and a sleek, elegant design, The Alpinist Dry Gin has been causing quite a stir right from the start. What is really of interest, however, is the clear liquid inside: The juniper schnapps is mixed to regulate the drinking strength with natural glacier water from the Jungfraujoch in over 3,454 meters in height. The ridge surrounded by monk, Eiger and Jungfrau is almost the origin of the famous Aletsch Glacier and belongs just as much to Switzerland as the Matterhorn. There, where more than 700,000 tourists take pictures each year, there are the in-house ice cliffs of The Alpinist, which supply the glacier water. But not only the water, but also the botanicals determine the taste of this gin. In addition to citrus fruits, juniper berries and a few exclusive, secret herbs, three so-called signature botanicals come into play. These are silver thistle, lady's mantle and arnica, all of which are native to the Swiss Alps. The place of the distillery is another small secret of the premium brand: it is only known that it is a manageable farm at the foot of the mountains.
Friends of exotic citrus come on the Malfy Gin Rosa at their expense, where the label design with pink details reveals that this gin bursting with pink grapefruit flavors. In Moncalieri - traditionally an area producing vermouth spirits such as Carpano, Cinzano and Martini - the distillery Torino Distillati with its Malfy Gin is rather an exotic one. Founded in 1906 by the family business "Fratelli Ferrero di Riccardo" and committed to vermouth and wine making, the distillery became part of Seagram in the 1960s. Then, in 1992, she fell into the hands of Carlo Vergnano, who, with the help of his wife and daughter, developed Malfy Gin as a "by-product" and first produced it in small quantities. Soon, the gin enjoyed a certain popularity and was produced in larger batches and in various designs. The Gin Rosa focuses on Sicilian pink grapefruit and a hint of rhubarb. Instead, the zests macerate said citrus fruits in neutral grain alcohol. The extract is then treated with Tuscan juniper, coriander, cinnamon cassia, angelica, orris root, liquorice, rhubarb and the shells of Amalfi lemons and oranges and distilled in a stainless steel bladder under vacuum at 60 ° C. Due to the low distillation temperature, the flavorings remain almost unchanged. The tasting of the "Rosa" version reveals notes of tropical-fruity grapefruit, juniper, herbs, lemons and rhubarb. The very strong flavors invite you to combine this gin with Tonic Water or other mixers.

The latest release from the Japanese whisky masters at Suntory: a blend of the products of all three distilleries. Yamazaki, Hakushu, Hibiki, Chita and now Toki - these are the world-renowned whisky brands of the Japanese company Suntory. It was not until 2016 that blended whisky was launched in the square bottle, with a Japanese character on the label revealing its origin. Toki is the Japanese word for time, and quite coincidentally it also resembles the surname of the current master distiller, Shingo Tokii. He selected the very special malt and grain whiskies, which make up the blend and determine the taste of grapefruit, green grapes, peppermint and thyme, from the three in-house distilleries. The official recommendation is to consume it pure, on the rocks or as a highball - that is, with ice cubes and soda water.
The Gin Mare is handmade in a small fishing village on the Costa Dorada south of Barcelona and refined with rosemary, thyme, basil and olives. The Gin Mare is characterized by the following 4 botanicals: thyme from Turkey, rosemary from Greece, basil from Italy and green Arbequina olives from Spain. A 36-hour maceration of these ingredients in alcohol and its subsequent redistillation in the traditional pot-still method are crucial for the flavor of Gin Mare. However, the spirit also contains the gin-typical botanicals juniper, cardamom and citrus.
