In Moncalieri - traditionally an area producing vermouth spirits such as Carpano, Cinzano and Martini - the distillery Torino Distillati with its Malfy Gin is rather an exotic one. Founded in 1906 by the family business "Fratelli Ferrero di Riccardo" and committed to vermouth and wine making, the distillery became part of Seagram in the 1960s. Then, in 1992, she fell into the hands of Carlo Vergnano, who, with the help of his wife and daughter, developed Malfy Gin as a "by-product" and first produced it in small quantities. Soon, the gin enjoyed a certain popularity and was produced in larger batches and in various designs.
The Gin Rosa focuses on Sicilian pink grapefruit and a hint of rhubarb. Instead, the zests macerate said citrus fruits in neutral grain alcohol. The extract is then treated with Tuscan juniper, coriander, cinnamon cassia, angelica, orris root, liquorice, rhubarb and the shells of Amalfi lemons and oranges and distilled in a stainless steel bladder under vacuum at 60 ° C. Due to the low distillation temperature, the flavorings remain almost unchanged. The tasting of the "Rosa" version reveals notes of tropical-fruity grapefruit, juniper, herbs, lemons and rhubarb.
