Alain Brumont Château Bouscassé Les Jardins Philosophiques 2019 – A characterful, dry white wine with plenty of freshness and finesse. The careful selection of plots, slow pressing and ageing on fine lees give it structure and depth. The nose reveals floral notes, mineral nuances and fruity aromas. Full-bodied, lively and smooth on the palate, it has a lovely balance and no oak influence. Ideal with seafood, fish, foie gras and risotto, or as an elegant aperitif.Details Grape varieties: Petit Manseng, Petit Courbu Region: Sud-Ouest / Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Vintage: 2019 Alcohol: 14% vol. Serving temperature: 9–12°C Closure: Cork About Alain BrumontThe unconventional winemaker Alain Brumont grows the ancient, small-berried indigenous Tannat grape in Madiran in south-western France. Brumont has managed to tame this highly tannic, strongly astringent grape variety in the finest plots of the terroir: at Montus, with its stony, steep south-facing slopes; on the Boucassé plateaus, with their ironstone and manganese soils; and in Gascony, with its limestone subsoil. He carefully ages the grapes in new barriques to create approachable, understated and exceptionally long-lived wines with generous fruit. The regionThe Sud-Ouest region encompasses the wine-growing areas of south-western France, with the exception of Bordeaux and Cognac. The areas around Bordeaux, Gascony and the Basque Country are influenced by the nearby Atlantic climate, while some inland regions benefit from hotter, drier summers. Numerous rivers have created soils consisting mainly of clay, sand and gravel, while the foothills of the Pyrenees and the plateaus feature a wide variety of rock types. In the Haut-Pays, largely the same grape varieties are grown as in Bordeaux, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, although the wines are less well known and therefore often more attractively priced. The south is home to one of Europe’s most interesting collections of local grape varieties, including Abouriou, Baroque, Duras and Petit Courbu, which adventurous winemakers turn into exciting wines.Case of 6 bottles, 75 cl each. Delivery throughout Switzerland within a few working days. Sale to persons aged 18 and over.
